The Application Engineer provides technical support to mobile customers as well to support Colmar & Canton

Application Engineering. The Application Engineer brings knowledge and application experience together to

deliver more effective customer results and share this experience with others.

o Identifies new or expanded business opportunities for new or existing products, services, or markets.

Promote the use of products and services to customers that are both strategic for Timken and add customer value.

o Performs application studies using mechanical tools and engineering principles developed by Timken.

Perform some calculations beyond the limits of currently-available analysis software. Evaluate possibilities for

expanding Timkens Product or Service lines.

o Analyzes customers application requirements and business goals to develop optimum bearing system

solutions. Provide engineering and technical support to field sales, and other internal customers. Increasing

customer interaction, including on-site or remote, real-time problem-solving with customers.

o Identifies improvements and enhancements to existing methods, processes and tools.

Job Assignments:

Performs systems analysis, bearing selection, adjusted L10 life calculations, seal and lubricant suggestions.

Calculate new fitting practices, review customer seal and lubricant selections, define bearing specifications.

Help to prepare technical brochures. Use design tool for initial internal geometry. Provide help for Entry-Level

Application Engineers. Checks the work of Application Engineers.

Performance or Quality Issues:

Performs advanced damage analysis, including evaluations of geometry, materials, and metallurgy. Review of design

concepts. Provide professional and technically appropriate responses to new or unusual situations.

Supports the Sales Process:

Presents technical information to customers. Assist Sales Engineer in the goal to influence buying decisions of

customers. Target results to known customer needs, adding value to the customer and to Timken. May receive calls

directly from customers without Sales intervention, but continues to ensure Sales participates in the process


Supports Marketing:

Provides market intelligence and support to marketing initiatives.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation:

Conduct project-related assessments. DFMEA for existing application types; may contribute to PFMEA. Continue to

apply standard processes and procedures with respect to risk analysis.

New Business Development:

Submit ideas for improvements to standard product lines, tests new analysis software. Conduct industry or

technology research. Launch PORs and test requests. Test and develop new analysis software from a technical

standpoint, and not only functionality. Conduct industry or technology research, and identify trends. Share

observations and conclusions with New Business Development associates to guide future development.

Knowledge Transfer:

Instructor for Core technical training classes. Shares knowledge and findings
